Acknowledgments

This book is the 16th book with my name on the cover, but I am far from alone in the process of creating it. Above all, I want to thank Almighty God for the opportunity to live, learn, and write during a period of amazing technological changes. All glory to Him.

I also want to thank my wife Cheryl for putting up with another round of long days and nights during the creation of this edition. Her encouragement and support make my career as a technology writer possible. I also want to thank my ever-growing family for helping me remember that one of the greatest benefits of networking is the ability to, at the click of a mouse, stay in touch with those you care about.

Many thanks to Scott Mueller, whose Upgrading and Repairing PCs has been my most-referred-to reference book since its first edition, and to Terry William Ogletree, who has helped bring Scott's vision of encyclopedic thoroughness and accuracy to network topics in previous editions of this book. I am humbled to have the opportunity to work with these individuals.

I also want to thank the staff at Que Publishing for the continued opportunity to write about technology subjects. In particular:

Greg Wiegand, for building a terrific team.

Todd Green, for asking me to take on this project.

Rick Kughen, for his long-time stewardship over the Upgrading and Repairing family.

Todd Brakke, for expert editing and suggestions.

Dan Knott, for managing the process.

Robert Shimonski, for helping to assure technical accuracy.

Sharry Gregory, for keeping payments coming and handling my questions.

Finally, I'd like to thank the graphics, design, and proofreading team members, for continuing to help produce outstanding technology books.

Mark Edward Soper
