Introduction: Hacks #30-39
A fast CPU has a voracious appetite for instructions and data.
Instructions and data come to the CPU (through two or more layers of
caching) from the main RAM on the system board. Optimizing the timing
and performance of the memory systems can keep your hungry CPU sated.
Before you get concerned with memory performance, you may have an
issue or three with the amount of RAM your hardware or operating
system can support. Even if you can't kick your
memory's performance up a notch or two, you can
learn how to make the most of what you have by taming your operating
system.
